The debut of NASCAR’s Camping World Truck Series in Canada may be more than seven months away but the event is already creating a stir in the motorsports world.

The race at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park’s 3.9-km Grand Prix road course,

80 km east of Toronto, was a big part of an announcement this week by powerhouse Hendrick Motorsports — home to five-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson, four-time champion Jeff Gordon, the sports’ most popular driver Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Kasey Kahne — that plans to run next generation star Chase Elliott at the Labour Day weekend race in a HMS prepared Chevrolet Silverado.

The 17-year-old Elliott is the son of 1988 Sprint Cup champion and two-time Daytona 500 winner Bill Elliott.
