LAS VEGAS - There will be an IZOD IndyCar race in Toronto and Edmonton next season, but where they will fall on the 2012 calendar has yet to be decided.

It was expected that IndyCar boss Randy Bernard would release all of next year’s schedule Friday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Bernard even set up a press conference that — supposedly — was to announce a new schedule but instead all that was revealed was that Las Vegas would again be the final race of the 2012 season.

Bernard said the series is still in negotiations with several new venues and that was the reason for the delay of releasing a full calendar.

There were even rumours that one of those new venues could be a third Canadian race — possibly in Quebec City — but all Bernard would say is that he love the racing in Canada.

“I can say for certain that the Canadian races will be back, I just don’t have the documentation right now to say when,” he said. “We love racing in Canada.”

What is known is that a pair of oval tracks — New Hampshire and Milwaukee — will not be back next season after fewer than 10,000 fans showed up for those events this season.

There is also speculation that there will be second race in Brazil, where IndyCar held a successful street race in Sao Paulo the past two seasons.

And with the success at the street course at Baltimore this season it is expected that any other new races would be in city centre venues like Toronto and Edmonton.
