By DEAN McNULTY, QMI Agency

INDIANAPOLIS - David Ragan came from nowhere to claim the pole for Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Brickyard 400 in the No. 6 Roush Fenway Racing Ford.

Ragan, who has been considered a long shot to be on the front row, posted a speed of 182.994 m.p.h. Saturday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Kasey Kahne was second fastest in the No. 4 Red Bull Racing Toyota at 182.927 m.p.h. Three-time Brickyard winner Jimmie Johnson will start on the inside of the second row after he put down a lap of 182.801 m.p.h. in the No. 48 Hendrick Motorports Chevrolet. Kurt Busch, with a lap of 182.671 m.p.h. in the No. 22 Penske Racing Dodge and teammate Brad Keselowski on a lap of 182.556 m.p.h. round out the top five.
