J.R. Fitzpatrick will get to do the double next week when the NASCAR Nationwide Series and the NASCAR Camping World series hit Dover International Speedway’s Monster Mile.

Fitzpatrick, from Cambridge, Ont., had already been slated to race in the NNS event in the No. 67 Go Canada Racing Ford Mustang as part of his new deal with the Canadian-owned team.

But this week, Chase Mattioli, driver of the No. 99 College Complete.com Ford F150 in the Camping World series, found he had a conflict with final exams at Fordham University where he is majoring in business and marketing.

So he asked the 22-year-old Fitzpatrick to fill in for him.

“I am wearing three hats these days, driver, owner and student,” Mattioli said. “With finals at Fordham approaching, I had a discussion with College Complete about stepping aside this week. Obviously, with their focus on education, College Complete agreed it was the right decision.”

Go Canada Team owner Steve Meehan agreed to the request.

“The team reached out to us earlier this week and asked us if J.R. could drive in place of Chase,” Meehan said. “We are excited to see J.R. get some additional track time prior to the Nationwide Race and delighted that CollegeComplete.com and Chase Mattioli Racing feel equally confident about J.R.’s abilities.”
