Daytona: 5 reasons why

Five reasons why Trevor Bayne won the Daytona 500, and ...
1. On the second of two green-white-checkered finishes, he was in the right place at the right time ó on the inside of the front row.
2. He didnít have to deal with a challenge from Dale Earnhardt Jr., after the No. 88 suffered a flat tire while going for the win on Lap 199.
3. When Robby Gordon made his bone-headed decision to try to get back in line after spinning out at 180m.p.h., it set up the final re-start that put him in the cat birdís seat.
4. Good old Ford horsepower from the shops of Yates Roush Engines. While the highly touted Chevrolet and Toyota engines were overheating, the Fords kept on running.
5. A push coming to the start/finish line from fellow Ford driver Carl Edwards kept the rest of the field behind him in the final 100 yards.
Five drivers who didnít win, and why
1. Jeff Gordon
My pick to win was caught up in ďthe big oneĒ that took out 14 cars on Lap 29 after David Reutimann in the No. 56 Toyota was hit by his team owner Michael Waltrip the No. 15 Toyota.
2. Jamie McMurray
The defending Daytona 500 champion dropped back from the leaders with 20 laps left, looking like he was down on power on the No. 1 Earnhardt Ganassi Chevrolet.
3. Jimmie Johnson
The five-time Sprint Cup champion was also one of those cars wrecked in the Lap 29 monster crash that took out his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Gordon.
4. Kevin Harvick
The winner of the 2009 Daytona 500 lasted only 22 laps before the engine of his No. 29 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet blew up, ending any hopes for two wins.
5. Dale Earnhardt Jr.
The crowd favourite has flat tire with one lap to go before green-white-checkers finish. Then the crowd moans in unison as he wrecks on the first of two final overtime laps.
