PETERBOROUGH -- Rain washed out Andrew Ranger's chance to win his second NASCAR Canadian Tires Series championship in three seasons last night at Kawartha Speedway.

The 22-year-old from Roxton Pond, Que., needed just to start the Z-Line Designs 250 in his No. 27 WalMart/Tide Dave Jacombs Racing Ford Fusion to clinch the title.

Going into the race he held a 189-point lead over second place Ron Beauchamp Jr., of Windsor.

With the maximum points available to be won set at 190, Beauchamp would have had to lead the most laps and win the race with Ranger not starting to overcome the deficit.

Race officials will try again today to complete the 13th and final race of the NCTS season.

Ranger already had won six of the previous 12 races -- a NASCAR record for the Canadian series.
