Area motorsports enthusiasts won't be left wanting this Victoria Day weekend with plenty of stock car and drag racing action scheduled.

The highlights include a double treat for Delaware Speedway fans tonight as it runs twin features for the late models and open-wheel modifieds.

Mother Nature has played havoc with the two previous NASCAR Whelan All-American Series weekly programs, wiping out opening night, then washing out the features last week.

"Our fans have plenty to be excited about (tonight)," said Delaware public relations director John Houghton.

"The ($2-million) speedway renovation has continued aggressively and fans get their chance to see the first use of the track since repaving began last Saturday."

The initial work has seen large sections of the half-mile replaced with new asphalt.

The late models will be the first to put it to the test at 8 p.m. as they complete their 50-lap feature that was red-flagged four laps in last week when the rain hit. They'll run their scheduled 35-lap feature later in the program.

The modifieds take the track second with their rained-out 25-lap feature. Later, they have their scheduled 25-lap feature.

The super stocks make their first weekly program appearance after being rained out opening night. Those races will be rescheduled later in the season.

There's also a king of the hill spectators' race open to street-legal, street-driven vehicles. It takes the form of one-on-one drag races around the oval. The winner gets $500. A helmet and proof of ownership are required.

Grand Bend Motorplex and St. Thomas Dragway have full programs tonight through Sunday. For schedules, visit www.grandbendmotorplex.com and www.stthomasdragway.com.

The Pro Modified Racing Association has its Victoria Day Challenge tonight through Sunday at Cayuga Dragway.

The seven-race series features teams from Ontario, New York, Michigan and Pennsylvania. It also stops at St. Thomas, July 11-12, and Grand Bend, July 17-19 (part of the 10th annual IHRA Mopar Canadian Nationals), then Aug. 8-9 and Sept. 5-6.
