Anybody who ever has had the unfortunate experience of seeing two-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Tony Stewart without his shirt knows the meaning of a hairy encounter.

So it was a particularly gruesome sight earlier this week when the driver of the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota had his back waxed in the name of charity during his weekly show on Sirius Satellite radio.

It was the result of a lost bet with Kevin Harvick, driver of the No. 29 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet.

Stewart had said that if Harvick and his wife DeLana could raise $100,000 US for Kyle Petty's Victory Junction Gang camp, he would have his hirsute back waxed.

They did and he did.

CANUCK TEEN WINS

There is another Canadian teenager making a mark in motor racing.

Brendan Langlois, a 16-year-old native of Grande Prairie, Alta., who now lives in Kamloops, B.C., beat out more than 500 other youngsters to earn a spot at Ron Sutton's Winners Circle Driver Development Program after a shootout at California's Roseville Speedway.

Other drivers to have come through the program include four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Jeff Gordon and the driver of the No. 10 Gillett Evernham Motorsports Dodge, Patrick Carpentier.

"This program has helped me so much," Langlois said from his Kamloops home. "Ron Sutton and all of the speakers really know their stuff and help bring the best out of all the drivers involved. I am happy to be part of this program and can't wait to get into the racing action."

FINISH LINES

The No. 27 Toyota team at Bill Davis Racing, where former world champion Jacques Villeneuve had hoped to start his NASCAR career, has suspended operations because of lack of sponsorship after trying both Mike Skinner and Johnny Benson behind the wheel ... Yeley when Steve Boyer takes over from Brandon Thomas.
