The Edmonton Rush are ready to put up one heck of a fight over the 2014 NLL season.

And they will be starting things out with one heck of a fighter in their corner.

UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre — whose nicknames are GSP and, fittingly, Rush — will be behind Edmonton’s bench in their home opener when they kick off the regular season against the Colorado Mammoth on Jan. 11.

“To reach out to athletes with similar vision of passion and achieving excellence within their sport is a great opportunity for me,” St. Pierre stated in a press release from the club Wednesday. “I am excited to join the Rush in their season home opener, meet their passionate fans and come to the city of Edmonton.”

A dominant fighter touted as the best pound-for-pound the world of mixed-martial arts has seen, St. Pierre isn’t the first tie the Rush have had with the octagon.
