Rush remain on road

EDMONTON - It’s been oh-for so far for the Edmonton Rush, who are looking for their first victory of the season in Minnesota against the Swarm Saturday.
After falling to 0-2 on the season, the Rush will close out a three-game road trip against an opponent they swept a home-and-away series against last year.
But that was then, and this is now a Swarm team that claimed their first win last weekend by doubling the defending champion Washington Stealth 16-8.
“It’s not going to be easy on the road again for us this week,” said Rush head coach Derek Keenan.
Swarm forward Ryan Benesch, who played in Edmonton in 2009, was named NLL overall and offensive player of the week, scoring a franchise-high seven goals and tying a club-record 11 points in a game that he set last season.
Benesch led the NLL with nine goals and 15 points heading into this weekend’s slate.
Swarm goaltender Nick Patterson was named defensive player of the week, recording 50 saves on 58 shots.
“It was nice to get a full 60-minute game in for a change,” said Swarm head coach Mike Lines, whose squad improved to 1-1. “It’s been a long time coming.”
While the Rush haven’t been able to score more than seven points in a game yet, there has been improvement.
“We were way more on the same page as a unit in terms of communication,” Keenan said. “We were just night and day from the week before.”
AS SEEN ON TV: VERSUS will air nine games during the 2011 season.
The national television package will feature regular-season and playoff games, culminating with the NLL Championship. The broadcast schedule will begin with the 2011 All-Star game Feb. 27 (noon) from Verona, N.Y.
