The Edmonton Rush looked to the future on the National Lacrosse League trade deadline day.

Yesterday the Rush made a couple of separate moves to acquire a pair of picks in this year's NLL draft.

"The 2009 draft is a deep one and it is a big benefit for us to stockpile some additional picks," said Rush head coach and general manager Bob Hamley in a statement.

In the first move of the day, the Rush sent goaltender Steve Dietrich to the Toronto Rock in exchange for a second-round pick.

Dietrich, who was acquired this off-season from the Calgary Roughnecks, played in seven games for the Rush this season amassing a 1-4 record, with a 14.0 goals against average and .742 save percentage.

The veteran goaltender had a rough outing in his last start for the Rush, getting pulled twice in a 22-10 loss to the Roughnecks on Friday.

With Dietrich's departure, the Rush will go with the goaltending tandem of Chris Levis and Brandon Atherton for the rest of the season.

The Rush also picked up a first-round pick from the San Jose Stealth in exchange for defenceman Andrew Biers, who appeared in two games this season and failed to register a point.

The Rush will travel to face the Stealth on Saturday, before returning home to host the Rock on March 28 (7 p.m.) at Rexall Place.
