Josh Sanderson made history last night doing exactly what he does best.

On a powerplay in the first quarter of a 13-8 win over the Minnesota Swarm, Sanderson dished off to Tracey Kelusky, who then found Curt Malawsky for an easy goal.

The assist moved Sanderson into fifth place in the National Lacrosse League's all-time points list.

With his 774th regular-season point, Sanderson passed Tom Marechek. Only four of the game's best ever remain ahead of Sanderson.

Those sitting ahead of Sanderson are all still active -- Buffalo's John Tavares (1,355), Rochester's Gary Gait (1,115), San Jose's Colin Doyle (883) and John Grant Jr. (811) of the Knighthawks. Grant is out for the year with a knee injury.

"With those names up there, I can't help but feeling it's a great honour," Sanderson said. "Those are the names that I watched when I was a kid.

"I admired all those guys when I first came into the league. Obviously when it's all said and done, this will mean a lot.

"It's obviously a great honour, but I didn't know about until people started asking me about it."

Sanderson finished with four assists last night as the Riggers improved to 5-0.

The team is getting it done with scoring by committee, but Sanderson still leads the team with 29 points to put him a tie with Tracey Kelusky.

"Everybody is bringing something to the table," Sanderson said.

Malawsky played with Grant in Rochester years ago and with Doyle in San Jose a few seasons back, and said Sanderson deserves to be mentioned with those names.

"Since we brought Josh in, he really settled everybody down," Malawsky said.

"He distributes the ball so well. He is, by far, the best floor general I've played with and I've played with some great ones.

"I played with John Grant and Colin Doyle, and I see Josh as the cream of the crop.

"He's so unselfish. When guys are open, he gets them the ball. He doesn't really care who gets the goals or assists, and he's really bred that into our team."
