The Rock completed a major weekend statement by defeating the Buffalo Bandits 13-9 last night at the HSBC Arena.
With the win, the 7-4 Rock moved a half game ahead of the 7-5 Bandits into third spot in the National Lacrosse League's East Division playoff race.
Rock forward Aaron Wilson, in the midst of an awful season until scoring four times in Toronto's 14-9 victory over the Edmonton Rush Friday night, one-upped that performance with another four goals, along with three assists.
Josh Sanderson scored four times and added a pair of assists, while Ryan Benesch, who also had been struggling, chipped in with two goals and four assists. Blaine Manning added five assists.
Following Friday's contest, several Rock players suggested that because they were fresh, they would have an edge over the well-rested Bandits, who most recently played two weeks ago.
However, Buffalo had a 2-0 lead before this game was even 38 seconds old thanks to goals by Brett Bucktooth, making his season debut, and Cory Bomberry. Buffalo stretched its lead to 3-1, before the Rock rallied and the clubs were knotted at five at the half.
Toronto took control of the game in the third quarter, outscoring Buffalo 4-1 behind a pair from Benesch and singles from Sanderson and Cam Woods, and held on for its second big win in a row.
