SUN Three Stars

1. G Ryan Avery, Roughnecks -- Stood tall and made some huge saves in his first start of the season.

2. F Lewis Ratcliff, Roughnecks -- Seemed to have the energy of 12 men, scoring three goals and eight points.

3. T Nolan Heavenor, Roughnecks -- Had a career game with five goals and eight points.

HIT OF THE GAME

Portland's superstar D Brodie Merrill received a pass on the half boards in his own end but he didn't go far as Roughneck T Nolan Heavenor pasted Merrill.

GOAL OF THE GAME

Roughnecks F Lewis Ratcliff made a great defensive play to slap the ball out of Jax D Brodie Merrill's stick. Ratcliff recovered the loose ball walked in and put a low shot past Portland G Dallas Eliuk.

REPORT CARD

Offence (A) -- Awesome. Finally played to their potential and scored the goals when the Roughnecks needed them most.

Defence (B+) -- Made some bad clearing passes but other than that, punished Portland's offence.

Goaltending (A) -- Could be Ryan Avery's coming out party, as he was especially stellar in the first half.

Special teams (A) -- The powerplay was 6-for-8 and the penalty killing units held Portland to only four goals on 11 tries.

NEXT UP

The Roughnecks' next game will be April 6 against the Edmonton Rush at the 'Dome.
