Grant Hamilton is laying down the law, on and off the lacrosse carpet.

The 38-year-old Calgary Roughnecks defender returned to the team this season after sitting out a year following a promotion to sergeant with the Victoria police department. Hamilton has four goals and

14 points this season and has become an integral part of the club's surging transition game, literally taking the ball and running with it following turnovers in Calgary's end.

"The coaches have been great and encouraging me to push the ball up," said Hamilton, who was solid in last night's

14-12 win over Arizona.

With a wife, two kids and a demanding job, Hamilton said it takes some creative scheduling to allow him to play. He couldn't do it without using holiday time and switching shifts with fellow officers.

"I've had to pull in a few favours," said Hamilton. "I'll probably be paying those back come June, that's for sure."
