The NLL announced yesterday that Chicago has been granted an expansion team for the 2007 season.

The club, which will play out of a new 11,000-seat Sears Centre in suburban Hoffman Estates, is co-owned by former NBA player and Chicago Bulls coach Kevin Loughery along with his son Kevin Jr.

"This is the best thing I've done for Chicago since drafting Michael Jordan in 1984", said Kevin Loughery Sr.

There is considerable speculation that the NLL will further expand by one more team for the '07 season. The league considers New York to be a top priority and there is a bid from a group that wants to split the team's home games between Madison Square Garden in Manhattan and Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Long Island. Other cities with apparent interest in NLL expansion teams include Winnipeg, Miami, Dallas, and Hartford. The league currently stands at 11 teams.
