CALGARY -- This is Calgary's first game of the season. The 'Necks are one of the final three teams -- which all play tonight -- to open their seasons.
EDMONTON -- The Rush lost its season-opener at Rexall Place Jan. 6, falling 10-9 in overtime to West Division rival San Jose.
EDMONTON -- Rush F Jamey Bowen scored the franchise's first-ever goal in the loss to San Jose and led the club with two goals in the loss.
EDMONTON -- The Rush's collective offence, which managed to score only nine times in the 10-9 loss to San Jose.
The Rush have eight players on its 23-man roster who have been either property of, played for, or where drafted by the Calgary Roughnecks: Kevin Howard (2004, '05), Darren Hillier (2001-02), Jordan Sundher (2001-02, '05), Dwight Maetche ('05), Brad Dairon (holdout), Peter Gut (drafted '03), Jimmy Quinlan (drafted '01), Trent Smalley (drafted '02).
POWERPLAY -- Calgary, 51.02% (second in 2005); Edmonton was 3-6 against San Jose (50%).
PENALTY KILL -- Calgary, 55.28% (sixth in 2005); Edmonton killed seven of 11 penalties against San Jose (63.64%).
Roughnecks starting defenders Jesse Phillips (injury) and Craig Gelsvik (work commitments) will miss tonight's game ... Rush goalie Pat Campbell, who served as a backup for Rochester last season, was impressive in the Rush's season-opening loss, stopping 42 of the 52 shots he faced ... Roughnecks VP Bob Poole said as of yesterday, the team had sold 4,250 season tickets. That's up 1,000 from last season ... Edmonton coach Paul Day commutes from the Niagara Region of Ontario where he lives and works as a police officer with the Niagara Regional Police Department ... Edmonton backup goalie Dwight Maetche is the uncle of young Rush forward Jordan Cornfield ... The Roughnecks will 16 games this season, four of them against the Rush. Both teams will host two games.
