The Toronto Rock announced its 23-man roster yesterday and there will be some new faces to watch this season.

Rookies Rob Marshall, 21, and Matt Taylor, 22, beat out a number of other hopefuls at training camp and will bring youthful enthusiasm to the defending NLL champions.

The team also added forwards Mat Giles and J.J. Dickie, along with defencemen Scott Campbell and Brad MacDonald.

General manager/coach Terry Sanderson said making the final cut was tough.

"We had some guys that were with us last year that unfortunately didn't stick this time.

"Whenever you have to do that, it is difficult."

That said, Sanderson is happy with how his team looks going into the season.

"We were looking for a little more toughness and grit and I think that's what we ended up with," he said.

Taylor, a Whitby native, has won two consecutive Canadian university field lacrosse championships with the Brock Badgers and will add to the Rock's already potent offence.

The hard-nosed Marshall played with the national Junior B champion Elora Mohawks last summer.

ROCK NOTES

Rogers Sportsnet will air 10 of the Rock's 15 games this season, as well as the NLL all-star game live from Toronto. All but two of the team's games also will air live on the FAN 590.

The Rock's three-man practice roster will be announced early in the new year. Justin Henhawk, an elite scorer in junior, will be with the squad one way or another.
