The Calgary Roughnecks continue to lock up talent, securing two more players yesterday.

The National Lacrosse League club re-signed forward Kevin Dostie and then signed defender A.J. Smith to one-year deals.

Dostie, 25, has played sparingly with Calgary since being acquired in the Ottawa Rebel dispersal draft prior to the 2004 season. In 30 NLL games, Dostie has scored 29 goals and 30 assists.

Smith, a stay-at-home defender, last played with the Vancouver Ravens during the 2004 season.

Roughnecks GM Kurt Silcott said Smith was brought in to challenge for a job in what is already a talent-rich Roughnecks' defensive corps.

"He has the ability to push the guys we have now on defence," he said.

Calgary opens the season Jan. 13 against the expansion Edmonton Rush at the 'Dome.

QUICK STICKS: The Edmonton Rush have commissioned a custom chopper to be built by the guys from TV's Orange County Choppers as a memento for the expansion club ... The Buffalo Bandits announced yesterday head coach Darris Kilgour will also serve as GM.
