The National Lacrosse League will establish a hall of fame with five charter members to be inducted in 2006.

The NLL made the announcement yesterday following the conclusion of its board of governors meetings in Las Vegas.

Superstar twins Gary and Paul Gait headline the list along with Russ Cline and Chris Fritz, who co-founded the NLL's precursor, the Eagle Pro Box Lacrosse League.

Rounding out the list is legendary coach Les Bartley, who lost his battle with cancer and died last month.

Other big news coming out of the meetings was the expansion of the NLL playoff format from six to eight teams. The top team in each division will host No. 4 and No. 2 will host No. 3.

The Calgary Roughnecks will play out of he West Division, along with the Arizona Sting, Colorado Mammoth, San Jose Stealth, expansion Edmonton Rush and the yet-to-be-named Portland franchise.

In other news:

- Portland won the coin toss with Edmonton to pick first in either the expansion or dispersal draft and the entry draft.

- The trade deadline has been moved back from the three-quarter point to mid-season.

- Teams will wear their light jerseys at home for the first half of the season and switch to their dark jerseys for the second half.
