Eight was enough for Kelusky

The Wizard was magical yesterday.

Calgary Roughnecks captain Tracey Kelusky had a hot wand as he scored eight goals and collected 10 points in the Calgary Roughnecks' 20-12 win over the Toronto Rock at the 'Dome in the teams' final game of the season.

The 29-year-old Peterborough, Ont., product put on a clinic by tying his own Riggers' single-game record for goals, only two shy of the league mark of 10.

Kelusky set a new Roughnecks' single-season goals mark of 45, beating the old record of 40 set by Ben Prepchuk in Calgary's inaugural season in 2001-02. It was a personal best, as well, eclipsing Kelusky's past high of 44.

In typical Kelusky fashion, he deflected the personal accolades following the game.

"It was huge for the team," he said. "We feed off one another energy-wise and I think that was one of the things we focused on: Feeding off each other's energy. Tonight, I was just feeding off anybody."

Roughnecks forward Lewis Ratcliff picked up three goals and seven assists to set new team marks for assists in a season and points in a season, finishing with 50 and 86, respectively.

Kaleb Toth held the old point mark of 79 set in in 2001-02, while Jason Wulder set the assist mark of 45 the same season.

Ratcliff got a chuckle out of all the helpers he collected this season.

"I'm more of a shooter than a passer, for sure," said Ratcliff. "It's an honour but you have to take it for what it's worth. Even though I'm leading the team (in points), I'm not the focal point of the offence. I just try to chip in wherever I can."

Toronto forward Colin Doyle collected seven points yesterday to finish the year with 111, tops in the NLL. Teammate Josh Sanderson picked up four helpers to finish the year with 71, breaking his own NLL single-season mark of 68.

Doyle, like Kelusky, heaped praise on his teammates.

"That's a compliment to the guys that I play with," said Doyle, the first player other than Paul Gait, Gary Gait or John Tavares to win the NLL scoring title since 1990. "We have a great offence. It's definitely an honour to get that, to be mentioned with guys like that."
