Rock's roll put on hold

The Rock will have to wait until next weekend to try to match its best start in franchise history. For the first time in the club's seven-season history, the lacrosse team had a game postponed. With a blizzard belting the northeast, the National Lacrosse League cancelled last night's game between the host Philadelphia Wings (1-1) and the Rock (2-0) in the early afternoon.

The game will be rescheduled this week. The Rock was hoping to improve to a franchise-tying-best 3-0 last night.

"You don't want anybody risking any harm trying to get to the game," said Rock general manager/coach Terry Sanderson, whose team arrived in Philadelphia Friday night and hopes to fly home today.

"You have got to respect the decision that was made. But it's unfortunate because we were ready to go."

It won't be easy to find a suitable date for the rescheduled game at the busy Wachovia Center because the teams do not share a weekend off. One team likely will have to add a back-to-back weekend to its schedule, unless the NLL schedules a rare weekday game.

The East Division-leading Rock faces the Rochester Knighthawks in a back-to-back, home-and-home series beginning Friday at the Air Canada Centre.
