Calgary Roughnecks netminder Curtis Palidwor put on a goaltending clinic over the weekend and was rewarded for his efforts yesterday. The second-year Riggers starter was named the National Lacrosse League's defensive and overall player of the week.

Palidwor backstopped the 6-4 Roughnecks to two wins over the weekend. He recorded 44 saves and allowed seven goals in a 14-7 win over Vancouver Friday and followed that Sunday by allowing only four goals and making 39 saves in a 14-4 win over Arizona.

The four goals against tied a league regular-season low.

At one point, Palidwor held opponents without a goal for a stretch of 62 minutes nine seconds over the course of the two games, a feat almost unheard of in the NLL.

"It's a great personal honour," said Palidwor. "But in reality, it's a tribute to all on the team for the way we played in both games.

"We decided coming into the weekend we were going to simplify our defence and forget about trying to match up our best players with their best players ... Obviously, it worked like a dream."
