By QMI Agency
Team Canada was dealt a heartbreaking 5-4 overtime loss to the United States in the semifinals of the Under-18 IIHF World Championship in Germany Saturday.
While Canada was able to rally from a 4-1 deficit in the third period with help from Brett Ritchie, Ryan Murphy and a last minute goal by Mark Scheifele, the U.S.’s Tyler Biggs shattered Canada’s hopes of playing for gold.
The 17-year-old scored on Canada’s goalie, Malcolm Subban, at 4:33 of the 10-minute overtime period.
Canada is scheduled to play Russia for the bronze medal while the U.S. is set to face off against Sweden as the Yanks attempt to capture their third straight tournament title.
