CALGARY -- Sheldon Souray couldn't wait. "I was anxious.

"I was in Montreal for one day, basically. I had enough time to repack my bags and get here,'' said the Montreal Canadiens defenceman who played in Sweden for Farjestad.

The big defenceman from Elk Point had just returned from playing in the Swedish Elite League playoffs, where Farjestad was eliminated in five games, and couldn't stay away.

Souray was supposed to join the team in Halifax on Monday along with Joe Thornton, Rick Nash and Chris Phillips, who all went deep into the playoffs in Europe.

"I took about two seconds to say yes when they asked me to be on the team, and I wanted to get here as soon as possible and meet the guys.

"I don't think I ever dreamed I'd be here. If they want me to fill the water bottles or be the seventh defenceman, whatever they want I'll do it.''
