Now that Ryan Smyth's expectant wife has delivered their second daughter, Team Canada is expecting Ryan Smyth.

Brad Pascall, director of communications for Hockey Canada, says the National Team has a spot left open on its World Championship roster for the Oilers' winger.

"My understanding is that Ryan is really eager to go," Pascall said yesterday.

"He's told us all along that if everything is OK at home he'll be ready to play.

"Family comes first and I wouldn't blame him for not coming, nobody would, but we'd love to have him and from what we understand he wants to come."

They wouldn't need Smyth, who said all along that he'll play as long as everything is healthy and happy on the home front, until the middle of next week, so he'll have time to spend at home before packing his gear.

"We have a training camp that opens Wednesday (in Calgary) so he wouldn't need to do anything until then," said Pascall.

"And if he needed we'd probably give him a couple more days."

Centre Shawn Horcoff has been listed as a candidate for Team Canada, but hasn't been approached yet.

"His name has been bandied about but I don't know if (GM) Steve Tambellini has talked to him yet."
