CALGARY - Hayley Wickenheiser has hoisted virtually every trophy and medal possible as a member of Canada’s women’s hockey team.

About to embark on her sixth Olympic Games — her fifth in the Winter Olympiad as a hockey star, in addition to one as a softball player in the 2000 Summer Games in Sydney), Canada’s all-time leading Olympic goal-scorer is also one of the leading candidates to be the nation’s flag-bearer during the opening ceremonies in Sochi.

“It’s obviously an honour to be considered or have your name talked about,” Wickenheiser said Monday at Canada’s Sprots Hall of Fame in Calgary, where the 21-woman hockey roster was unveiled for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. “There are a lot of athletes that could definitely take that honour and do it. If I’m asked, I would love to. I’m just so excited to be going to the Olympics again, so that’s good enough for me.”
