By QMI Agency

Karly Heffernan's goal 58 seconds into overtime gave Canada a 2-1 win over the United States in the final of the world women's under-18 hockey championship Saturday in Heinola, Finland.

The goal by Heffernan, from St. Albert, Alta., allowed Canada to repeat as world under-18 champions.

Catherine Dubois of Quebec City forced overtime when she beat American goaltender Sidney Peters with 13 seconds left in regulation. Jennifer Ryan's goal late in the first period gave the U.S. a lead it held on to for nearly the rest of the game.

Kimberly Newell stopped 39 shots for Canada while Peters made 23 saves for the U.S.
