Jim Fetter of Waterloo, Ont., and Sarah Howald of Regina, Sask., have been named as coaches with two of Canada's women's hockey teams.
Hockey Canada named Fetter coach of the women's under-22 squad Thursday while Howald was appointed to the same position with the under-18 team.
Fetter, a three-time College Hockey America coach of the year with Wayne State University, moves up to the top job after two seasons as an assistant coach with the under-22 team. He was on the coaching staff with the under-18 team during the 2007-08 season.
Howald was the coach of the under-22 team in 2008-09. She has been coach ofthe University of Regina's varsity program for the past 12 seasons and guided Team Saskatchewan at the Canadian women's under-18 championship in 2005.
The under-22 national team will play a three-game series against the United States at the Mastercard Centre in Toronto Aug. 18-21 then defend its gold medal at the MLP Cup in Kreuzlinger, Switzerland next January.
Canada's under-18 team will face the U.S. in a three-game series in Lake Placid, N.Y., Aug. 18-21 and participate in the 2011 world U18 championship in Sweden next spring.
Assistant coaches for the teams will be announced following the selection camps for both teams, which will be held Aug. 6-15 at the Mastercard Centre.
