The first national women's hockey team camp of the season kicked off yesterday in Calgary with four Manitobans in the mix.

National team regulars Jennifer Botterill of Winnipeg and Delaney Collins of Pilot Mound were joined by rookies Jocelyne Larocque of Ste. Anne and Laura Fridfinnson of Arborg.

The camp, which wraps up on Sunday, is the first of numerous workouts and tournaments that will be used to determine the Canadian team that will compete at the 2009 world championship in Finland next April.

Botterill, a forward, and Collins, a defenceman, will compete for the veteran-laden Team Red during this week's camp, while Larocque, a defenceman, and Fridfinnson, a forward, will line up for the young Team White.

A pair of AAA midget boys' teams from Calgary will compete against Team White and Team Red in a round-robin tournament over the next three days, with the top two squads meeting in Sunday's final.
