Toronto is one of two finalists for the 2007 women's world hockey championship.

The city is battling Winnipeg for the right to hold the tournament.

"We feel we have a sound bid, a great city and we believe this event would do great things for the City of Toronto and women's hockey," said Fran Rider, executive director of the Ontario Women's Hockey Association.

Rider was part of a five-person delegation that went to Calgary this week to make a presentation to Hockey Canada on why Toronto should get the tournament.

Canada has played host to the tournament four times, in Ottawa, Kitchener, Mississauga and Halifax. The decision on who will be host in 2007 will be made by Jan. 15, Rider said, although it could come sooner.

"I think we nailed the bid,"Councillor Mark Grimes said. "I think it's Toronto's time."

The tourney likely would be held at Ricoh Coliseum, Air Canada Centre and Iceland in Mississauga.
