EDMONTON - When you’re Wayne Gretzky, raising half a million dollars for a charity is all in a day’s work.

The Great One is on his way back to Oil Country, this time as the big-ticket speaker for the “Legend Experience,” a fundraiser for the Kinsmen Club of Edmonton.

“I anticipate we’ll hear the full gamut from even prior to his Edmonton days, but most of the stories will probably revolve around Wayne’s time in Edmonton,” says Kinsmen spokesman Brenden Fitzgerald.

The event, scheduled for Sept. 23, will be a dinner conversation with the Great One.

Sports personality Kelly Chase will be moderating a one-on-one discussion with Gretzky, picking the legend’s brain about sports, life and his career.

“He’s assisted on as many charities as he has goals in the NHL and he knows how important it is to come back and do things for organizations like (the Kinsmen),” says Chase.

This is the inaugural Kinsmen Club Sports Celebrity Gala.

Northlands has partnered with the Kinsmen to host the event at the Edmonton Expo Centre.

Gretzky will be flanked by other sports celebrities, followed by live comedic entertainment and live and silent auctions.

All 160 tables are expected to sell out and organizers hope the allure of Gretzky will help raise nearly $500,000.

“He’s not just great for the great hockey play but he’s great for what he’s left behind in the community and all the lives he’s impacted,” says Northlands CEO Richard Andersen.

But to be in the presence of greatness will cost you.

Prices for tables range from $3,000 for just a table of 10, or as much as $35,000 for the deluxe package, which includes the chance to dine with Gretzky and limo service to and from the event.
