MONTREAL — A Quebec court has sentenced a former minor hockey coach to four years in jail for child molestation.

Marcel Robert will also be registered as a sex offender for the next 20 years.

The ex-coach pleaded guilty Thursday to charges he sexually assaulted three of his young players over a 36-year period, between 1967 and 2003.

The abuse began when the victims were between six- and eight-years-old and lasted until they were in their 20s.

The identities of the victims are protected, but in interviews with QMI Agency following the ruling, two of them said they were satisfied with the sentence.

Robert, 76, was arrested in 2009 in Montreal where he was working as a volunteer at a youth hockey association.
