By PAMELA ROTH, QMI Agency
A former junior hockey player from Edmonton is in stable condition at a Minneapolis hospital after breaking his neck during a university game. University of Denver centre Jesse Martin was taken off the ice on a stretcher Sunday night following the massive hit by a University of North Dakota player during the second period. According to Aaron Leu, University of Denver Associate Director of Sports Medicine, the 22-year-old suffered three fractures to his C-2 vertebrae in his neck and is in stable condition. The university website states Martin, a former member of the Spruce Grove Saints, has feeling in all his extremities and will undergo further testing during the next 24 hours to determine if surgery is required.
