STOCKHOLM, Sweden -- Former NHL netminder Vesa Toskala is back in hockey, but not in North America.
Swedish newspaper Expressen reported on Monday that Toskala has signed a one- month contract with AIK of the Swedish Elite League.
The paper revealed the move was made since the club's back-up netminder Christopher Heino-Lindberg will be out at least a week with a groin injury.
Toskala spent last season in the NHL with Toronto and Calgary, going 9-12-3 with a 3.48 goals-against average and .880 save percentage in 32 games.
Since breaking into the league with San Jose in 2001, the 33-year-old native of Finland has posted a 129-82-30 record with a 2.76 GAA and 13 shutouts over 266 appearances
