ST. PETERSBURG, Russia -- Forward Maxim Afinogenov, who skated with the Atlanta Thrashers last season, has decided to play in Russia's Kontinental Hockey League in 2010-11.
On Friday, Sov Sport magazine reported that Afinogenov signed a contract with SKA St. Petersburg of the KHL. Though terms of the deal were not released, Yahoo! Sports is saying it's a five-year deal.
The 30-year-old native of Moscow registered a career-high 24 goals and 61 points while suiting up for all 82 games with Atlanta in 2009-10.
A third-round pick of Buffalo in 1997, Afinogenov recorded 134 goals and 200 assists in 569 regular-season games for the Sabres from 1999-2009.
