Cole hoping HNIC will keep him busy

Bob Cole hopes a regular seat in front of a microphone remains in his future as the 2008-09 season quickly approaches.

Cole, 75, admitted last night that he was aware of the scuttlebutt being bandied about suggesting his workload could be shaved during the 2008-09 season.

"All I can say is that I'm very enthusiastic and ready to get things going," Cole said. "Hopefully CBC sees things that way too.

"I understand whatever happens is not my decision. I'm just ready to get started."

Cole said he had not received his 08-09 work schedule as of yet.

Jim Hughson, owner of some of the best pipes in the sports broadcast business, was hired full time by the CBC last season and is considered Cole's eventual successor as the network's No. 1 hockey play-by-play voice, a transition that is expected to take place for the upcoming campaign.
