Wayne Gretzky is stepping up for the Stollery Children's Hospital.
And for a few thousand dollars, golf fans can step up alongside him.
Yesterday Gretzky announced he has accepted an offer to play in a fundraising, pro-am event as part of the CN Canadian Women's Open Aug. 13-19 at the Royal Mayfair Golf Club.
Gretzky will play with defending Canadian Women's Open champion and this year's U.S. Women's Open champion Cristie Kerr.
The other two spots in the foursome will be auctioned off along with an opportunity to be Gretzky's caddie.
"I'm looking forward to my return to Edmonton, but especially because it will help raise money for the Stollery," Gretzky said in a news release. "CN's commitment to helping sick kids through the CN Miracle Match program is something that I really wanted to personally support and I hope the people of Edmonton will show their generosity as well."
The minimum bid to play in the foursome is $12,500 and to caddie for Gretzky is $2,500. CN will match the funds raised by the auction with all proceeds going to the Stollery.
The auction began yesterday and will close on Friday, Aug. 10. Bids can be made online at www.cnmiraclematch.ca.
