Russian '72 team member, Mishakov, dies

The Russian Ice Hockey Federation reports Evgeny Mishakov, who played for Russia in the 1972 Summit Series, has died. He was 66.

Mishakov had reportedly been in very ill health for years and his death marks the sixth among members of the the Soviet team of 1972. The others are Alexander Ragulin, Alexander Sidelnikov, Valeri Kharlamov, Gennady Tsygankov and Viacheslav Solodukhin.

Mishakov, born on February 22, 1941 in Moscow,  played in six games during the series, collecting no points. He was most remembered for being involved in the tournament's only fight with Rod Gilbert. At the time fighting was frowned upon in Russia, but Mishakov was never reprimanded.

According to the Russian Federation website, the four-time Russian hockey champion and two-time Olympic gold medallist died suddenly last Wednesday.
