There is no place Matt Halischuk would rather be than Winnipeg, so the unrestricted free agent signed a new deal with the team on Wednesday.

The Toronto native signed a one-year, two-way contract worth $725,000.

“First and foremost, I wanted to get something done with Winnipeg there, and I’m just glad that we could get something done,” Halischuk said. “It’s going to be exciting to be back, and I’m looking forward to going to camp.”

Halischuk signed with the Jets last July and appeared in 46 games last season, registering five goals, five assists and six penalty minutes. He suffered a broken arm in December and was therefore on the shelf when the Jets fired Claude Noel and hired Paul Maurice.

“That was something new, but it was nice to get back and get healthy and get some games in before the end of the season to start the summer off on a good note,” Halischuk said.
