Defenceman Ben Chiarot agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday.

Chiarot, 23, signed a two-way deal that is worth $600,000 in the NHL after a strong campaign with the St. John’s IceCaps of the American Hockey League.

The Hamilton product had six goals and 20 points in 65 games for the IceCaps during the regular season before adding two goals and five points in 21 playoff games as his team reached the Calder Cup final against the Texas Stars.

Chiarot, who made his NHL debut against the Chicago Blackhawks last November, is expected to challenge for a roster spot with the Jets this fall.

The last remaining restricted free agent for the Jets if winger Michael Frolik, whose club-elected salary arbitration hearing is scheduled for July 31 in Toronto.
