Former NHLer turned Winnipeg councillor Thomas Steen is accused of breaking conditions of an undertaking.

Police took Steen back into custody July 11 and he spent a night in jail before being released on a recognizance.

Steen is accused of breaching an undertaking June 21 by communicating with a woman he was previously accused of assaulting.

The original incident happened May 1 in the Garden City area, and was domestic in nature.

Steen took a leave of absence from council after the charges became public, only to return to work four days later.

Conditions of his original release prohibited Steen from consuming alcohol or other drugs, or from going within 200 metres of the woman named in the documents.

Steen was once the captain of the Jets, playing with them for 14 seasons until he retired from the NHL in 1995.

His charges have been remanded to Aug.18.
