It’s been a whirlwind two weeks, capped by a frenzied few days of his first taste of what pro hockey will be all about.

And Nikolaj Ehlers, the Winnipeg Jets first-round draft pick, June 27 in Philadelphia, has eaten up every second.

“I knew it was going to be hard,” Ehlers said Thursday’s session. “I knew there was going to be a lot of competition. But I also knew it was going to be fun. And I’ve been enjoying every single day here. I’m just really happy to be here.”

Surprises? Not really.

The 18-year-old from Denmark had a pretty good idea what he was getting into, after a year with the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior League.

“I know the big guys who are competing against me,” Ehlers said. “I mean, we all want to make the team. They’re all really good players. And we’ve all got the same chance. And we’ve all got to compete for that chance.”
