With the 2014 NHL Draft is just a week away, the rumour mill is heating up.

And free agency is just around the corner.

Sure, the Stanley Cup was just awarded to the Los Angeles Kings, but the process of trying to improve one’s team never ends.

Naturally, teams that missed the playoffs, like the Winnipeg Jets, have been hard at work, formulating a plan on how to best improve the roster for next season.

There’s little doubt that a run to the Calder Cup final will be beneficial for many players on the St. John’s IceCaps’ roster as they continue their development.

Some of those guys who played in the neighborhood of 20 games — during a run that ended with three consecutive overtime defeats to the Texas Stars and losing a hard-fought championship final in five games — should be knocking on the door for a roster spot come October.
