It is perhaps the ultimate compliment that Keith McCambridge could have paid.

When asked about the play of Winnipeg Jets 2013 first rounder Josh Morrissey earlier this week, the head coach of the St. John’s IceCaps cited the skill and smarts of the mobile blue-liner but took his praise a step further.

“Right now, he looks like a player that has been here all season for us,” said McCambridge. “His reads, making plays under pressure and his poise on the power play has been a real welcome addition.”

The fact that Morrissey has been able to jump into the lineup at the American Hockey League level and make an impact shouldn’t come as a big surprise.

But make no mistake, it’s a big jump from junior to the Calder Cup playoffs, even for a high-end player.

So has it simply been a matter of trying to blend in?

“Definitely, I feel that way. I just feel a part of the group,” said Morrissey, the 13th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
