Former Winnipeg Jet and current city councillor Thomas Steen, 53, is facing assault charges, according to published reports.

Steen reportedly turned himself into police on Tuesday evening after after an alleged assault occurred at the Boston Pizza on McPhillips Street.

Police confirm a 53-year-old man turned himself into police Tuesday night and is facing assault charges. He was released on a promise to appear. The assault reportedly involved a woman, but no serious injuries occurred.

The rookie councillor current sits as a member of the police board and is in his first term serving the ward of Elmwood-East Kildonan.

The Sweden-born ex-NHL player retired in 1995 after playing for the Jets for 14 years. His son Alex Steen currently plays for the St. Louis Blues.
