The Winnipeg Jets have found their head coach.

The NHL club has signed Paul Maurice to a multi-year contract extension rather than explore other potential candidates.

Maurice took over on an interim basis from the fired Claude Noel in mid-January, and the Jets immediately went on a 9-2 run, raising hopes they may challenge for a playoff spot.

But they fell off the pace in the NHL’s Western Conference, and by the end of the season Winnipeg’s record under Maurice was 18-12-5.

A veteran of more than 1,000 games behind the bench, Maurice hinted all along he’d like to take the job, but needed to discuss relocation with his family first.

Maurice has signed a four-year deal.
