WINNIPEG - I don’t agree with former Blue Bomber kicker Troy Westwood on a lot of things, just like he often doesn’t agree with me.

But I’ll defend his right to express his opinion until his very last tweet.

Old Lefty on Monday caused his biggest stir since he called the residents of Saskatchewan a bunch of banjo-picking inbreds, more than a decade ago.

Taking to Twitter to criticize Jets captain Andrew Ladd for missing the game in Dallas in order to be with his wife for the birth of their second child, Westwood sparked quite the firestorm in the usual places.

The Twitterverse immediately broke into opposing mobs lobbing virtual molotov cocktails to and fro, the debate eventually spilling into the streets of the mainstream media — Yahoo Sports and CBC covered the “story” on their web sites.

Those marching at the dark end of the street accused Ladd of abandoning his team when it needed him most, its playoff chances hanging in the balance.
