WINNIPEG - Paul Maurice became the head coach of the Winnipeg Jets knowing his GM may be a seller at the NHL trade deadline.

The Jets’ interim head coach says the issue came up early in his dealings with Kevin Cheveldayoff.

“The second conversation I had with Kevin was that that was a possibility,” Maurice said. “Didn’t use the word, ‘sellers,’ but the precursor to that part of the conversation was the view to how the team was going to be built, and the youth of the hockey club.”

Whether or not the Jets’ performance in the last month has changed Cheveldayoff’s approach will play out over the next 48 hours.

Thanks to a 11-3-1 run under Maurice, the Jets are tied with Dallas and Vancouver for the last playoff spot, with 66 points.
