WINNIPEG - Winnipeg Jets head coach Paul Maurice is no closer to signing a long-term contract than he was when he took the job on an interim basis just over a month ago.

Maurice said Thursday he has had no contract discussions with Jets brass during the Olympic break, and doesn't plan to.

"We had a really, really clear understanding when I took the job how this was going to progress," Maurice said. "And there won't be a contract discussion until this entire season is over. That was the understanding going in that we both wanted."

And it hasn't changed despite the Jets going 9-3-1 since Maurice took over from the fired Claude Noel.

"I've enjoyed every minute of being here," he said. "But I'm not waiting after each win for somebody to knock on my door. What I like maybe most of all about this group that runs this team is that they have a plan and they're sticking to it. We agreed to do it a certain way and I'm especially comfortable doing it that way."
